It is an education proper to the Indian soul and need and temperament and culture that we are in quest of, not indeed something faithful merely to the past, but to the developing soul of India, to her future need, to the greatness of her coming self-creation, to her eternal spirit…Our education must be up to date in form and substance and modern in life and spirit.
Sri Aurobindo stated this in ‘A preface on National Education’ in 1920. The NEP 2020 drawing inspiration from his vision has reiterated that, “ the National Educational Policy envisions an education system rooted in Indian ethos that contributes directly to transforming India, that is Bharat sustainably into an equitable and vibrant knowledge society, by providing high- quality education to all, and thereby making India a global knowledge superpower.”
It is time now, for education in India to wake from the hangover of Macaulay’s policies of 1835 which uprooted Indian education by replacing the indigenous, culturally sound, prevalent education with the present system which needs to resuscitate the Indian spirit and culture.
An Indian system of education needs to depend on the Indian concept of man whom it has always considered as a soul, a portion of the divine enwrapped in mind and body. Hence, it should give full scope for the development of all the different parts of the human being around it.
Sri Aurobindo’s Vision of Integral Education best exemplifies this fulfillment:
Physical Education : It concerns itself with health education and physical training.
Education of the Vital : This consists of the refinement of emotions, desires and energies of action thorough training of the five senses, aesthetic sensibilities and character development.
Mental Education : This will consist of the development of the powers of the mind and its various faculties such as observation, reasoning, judgment, imagination and analysis.
Psychic and Spiritual Education : The child will be engaged in self reflection of his true nature. It relates to the nurturing of the highest values of Truth, Goodness and Beauty and spiritual aspirations for self progress.
Aims :
- To provide soul based education by bringing forth innate wisdom and divine potential to blossom.
- To bring balance in the personality of the being, through harmonious and integral development of the child.
- To be centered within our soul and thereby extend one’s experience of connectedness to the nation and the world.
- To find in ourselves the power to self transform.
- To raise and expand our Consciousness.
